Drink the Destination - Scotland

THE DRINK

Blood and Sand

THE STORY

I was convinced that a Blood and Sand was the official drink of The Open but not sure where I saw that information. I asked for it several times at The Open and nearby and got blank stares. At the Kingsmill in Inverness, we found a bartender willing to make one for us and he also enjoyed the recipe! One of my favorite drinks.

THE DESTINATION

When you think of Scotland,  Scotch and Irn-Bru are iconic, but don't be afraid to mix things up!

MAKE IT AT HOME

1 oz vermouth

1 oz orange juice

1 oz cherry liqueur

1 oz scotch

GO THERE

Find a place with a bartender willing to make it.  The Ark in Glasgow might.

THE DRINK

Once Upon a Dream at The Middle Spoon in Halifax

THE STORY

Tom and I were walking around Halifax and saw a dessert/cocktail place - The Middle Spoon.  I love fun cocktails, so this color changing drink was right up my alley.  Check my Instagram for the video of it changing to pink.

THE DESTINATION

Halifax, Nova Scotia is a great walkable downtown with a ton of places to eat and drink.

MAKE IT AT HOME

Vodka, orange and vanilla liqueur, fresh lemon juice, magic syrup and soda is the original description.  You can make this happen at home by brewing dried butterfly pea flowers until purple and adding vodka and ice when cooled off.  Add lemon juice to change to pink!

THE DRINK

Locked in Love

THE STORY

As we were enjoying our drinks and desserts at The Middle Spoon, we noticed a few people going downstairs.  We overheard a secret passphrase and realized there was a speakeasy downstairs!  After using the passphrase, we went down to The Noble with an Escort.  We were in Nova Scotia for our 30th wedding anniversary, so Locked in Love that came with a lock to hang up was perfect!

THE DESTINATION

Halifax, Nova Scotia is a great walkable downtown with a ton of places to eat and drink.

MAKE IT AT HOME
